The Organized VA - There is a Method to the Madness

I thought I would share the contents of my “ToolBox” with you. As a Virtual Assistant, we are always looking for tools to make our lives a whole lot easier.  The drawback to that is there are so many tools out there to choose from;  you can easily fall victim to  S.N.T.S. "Shiny New Thing Syndrome” (trying everything you can get your hands on).

Keep It Simple

I am a technology geek by nature, and I love testing out new software and apps. Over the years, I’ve used several different softwares and apps to help in manage my daily workflow.  The deal break for me is the software that I use has to cover multiple platforms like Windows OS, Chrome OS and Macbook OS as I have several operating systems in my workspace.

Chrome is my go-to browser because many of the apps I use are available in the Chrome Web Store, and Chrome can be used on multiple operating systems.

Sunrise Calendar is one of the best calendar apps I have come across.  It works hand in hand with Google Calendar and several other apps. Sunrise Calendar can be used offline which is great for these times when you may be without internet connection. Some of the other perks are:

  • It integrates with many of the popular apps like Asana, Evernote, and ToDoist

  • It works on both Android and Apple

  • You can still receive your Google Calendar reminders and invites

Evernote is my go-to app for organizing my thought, my business, and everything.   It’s available to use online, or you can download it to your computer. Other perks:

  • It’s can be used on all platforms via your browser

  • It’s free to use, but if you are a power user, you do have the option to upgrade to a premium account.

Brain Organizer

Workflowy is one the best tools to use when you need to make a list. I discovered it about 2 years ago, and I have used it since.  This is my go to app when I need to pen my thoughts process (brain dump).

Time Zones

Keeping up with the time in different time zones is so much easier when you use I found it the other day and immediately added it to my toolbox.

So there you have it. The short list of apps that I use to keep organized.  I would love to hear about the tool you use. Tell me about them in the comments. Look forward to reading about them!

The Entrepreneurs Journey - The Road We All Travel

When we decide to take the steps to start a business, the decision to make a new start brings a companion along. The companion’s name is doubt. It hangs around in the back of our minds and rears its ugly head at different stages in our journey.

Since starting a new business and doubting your success have such a close relationship, you will need to add yet another companion to the mix This new companion’s name is determination. Now, determination is a headstrong companion, and it plays a vital role in your journey. You will find over time that having determination at your side will give you that extra push you will need  to take your business to the next level.

Even with determination on your side there is one more companion you mustbring along and that companion’s name is accountability. Accountability is there to keep you focused on your goals, to make sure you are not distracted by doubt and to make sure you do not waver in the decision to make a new start.

A new start brings on doubt and makes us question our decisions. The spirit of determination is there to keep pushing us forward in spite of it all. As we move forward, we must always embrace accountability for the decisions we make.

What companion is on this journey with you?

Be Inspired!

New Kids on the Social Media Block

Have you heard about the "new kid's" on the social media block? No? Here's the scoop. The new kids are Tsu and Ello. These are the latest additions to the social network world. I'm sure some of you are saying, "Oh no, not another one!"  Yes, another one or two.

Tsu is a social network company, based in New York that promises to share their ad revenue with its users  that actively post and invite their friends to  join. For a more in-depth understanding of Tsu, check out Kurt Wagner's article, "New Social Network - Which Pays Users Who Post - Raises $7 million.  I signed up for the service this morning (it's been on my to-do list), so I'm going to try it out to see if this something I may want to stick with.

I am still trying to get use to Ello, another social media network that is still in beta. There has been a lot of talk about Ello on other social media platforms.  So many people were signing up, the servers crashed. It took a good while to receive an invite.  This network states it is 100 percent ad-free and they promise to stay ad free.  The interface of Ello is very basic and after using the social media platform for two weeks, I can say that I am still on the fence about the platform and all it has to offer. It takes a lot of getting use to and I am not there yet.

I would like to hear your thoughts about Ello and Tsu.

What Mobile Safety Measures are You Using?

Today we can  do just about everything from our mobile telephones. While this is a big convenience for us, we still need to stay secure and protect our phone from viruses and malware. So, what mobile safety measures are you using? I want to share two of my favorite apps that  I use to keep my android mobile phone safe and virus free. All of these apps are available in the Google Play Store. It is important that you only download your android apps from the Google Play Store. Doing so will cut down on the likeness of you download malware or bad apps.

My favorite security apps are:

AVG Antivirus Pro– I have used AVG on my PCs for years. And then when I found out about the antivirus protection for mobile phone, I downloaded it right away. Some of the features are anti-theft, privacy and it also comes with performance boost to help speed up your phone. The subscription is $14.99/year. Or you may use the free version.

CM (Clean Master) Security – is free in the app store and it has some great features like: malware scanning, memory boost, and my favorite app lock.

I use each of these apps to keep my mobile phone safe. If you are not using an anti-virus or malware app on your mobile phone, please re-consider it. Our mobile phones are just as vulnerable and our computers.

If you have a favorite security app that you are using, Share it with me in the comments below. I look forward to hearing from you.
